Yes! The main reason is that I trust what the scientists who study the big bang (cosmologists) have to say, and all of them say that all the evidence points to the big bang having happened.

The big bang is one of the theories that exist as to how the universe started. I’m not an expert on space, so I don’t know if it is the one that best fits all the evidence that has been collected so far. It is a nice idea though!

      Hi CDB2004,

That’s a brilliant question, and yes I absolutely do believe in the big bang.

The idea of a ‘big bang’ first popped up around 1930, and has since been studied in tremendous detail. We have a wealth of evidence to suggest that the big bang is indeed what happened in the early universe. The strongest evidence we have is from something called the cosmic microwave background (CMB), which is like the buzzing that was left over because the big bang was such a large event.

Having said that, we are never 100% sure that theories are correct in science. Who’s to say that tomorrow somebody might produce an experiment that shows that the big bang is wrong. In that case we would all have to go back to the drawing board to think of a new idea!
