• Question: Could the planet earth ever explode/blow up?

      Yes, it could. Its unlikely to do so all by itself though. Something would have to be done to cause it to explode.

      Hi mollymooo,

      As far as scientists know, there is no way for a planet to just explode or blow up on its own. You would need to have some external nuclear or chemical process to provide the energy of it to do so.

      The most likely destruction of the Earth will probably come from when the sun runs out of fuel and dies. This will cause it to expand, swallowing up the Earth!
